Palo Alto Battlefield National Historic Site
Purpose:
Palo Alto Battlefield NHS ? a unit of the National Park Service -
preserves the site of the first battle of the U.S.-Mexican War and informs
visitors about the national and international importance of both the Battle
and the War.

Needs, Duties, & Requirements:

Visitor Center: Help
others enjoy the park. Greet visitors, provide information, and answer the
phone. If you enjoy meeting new people, this is a good job for you.
o
Sewing: If you have sewing talents, we have a special
project just for you. The park is creating a fabric map showing the changes
in land ownership before and after the U.S.-Mexican War. The park will
provide all material and templates.

Alto is just north of the intersection of FM 1847 (Paredes Line Road)
and FM 511. From Rt. 77/83 take the FM 511 exit and drive east
approximately two miles to FM 1847. The park visitor center is on the east
side of 1847, 1,000 feet north of the intersection.

The American Cancer Society is a nationwide community based
voluntary health organization dedicated to controlling cancer

The mission of the American Heart Association is to reduce
disability and death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke. The
AHA services the Upper Valley and Lower Valley with two offices that
are located in Harlingen and McAllen, Texas. The organization works
to educate children and adults about the risk factors for heart
disease and how to lead a healthier lifestyle and advocates for
healthier public policies; and raises money for cardiovascular
research.

A.N. "Tony" Rico Elementary (M.A.N.O.S.)
This reading program assists 1st and 2nd grade students with their
reading skills. Volunteers can donate anywhere from 30 minutes to 8
hours daily or weekly to work with individual students. The program
runs from September through May excluding all school holidays.

The center provides housing, food, clothing, and social services on

This non-profit organization provides a loving home for needy Mexican

for conventions and meetings.
